Emily Vollmer, a new addition to the English department, started her substituting career in Toledo, Ohio in 1992. She decided to come to Los Angeles and continue substituting for the Los Angeles Unified School District at Banning High School in Wilmington.

Later she began her job as a librarian at the Beverly Hills Library. Meanwhile, Vollmer found another job at Beverly Hills High School.

She remained at BHHS for five years, and while there, she enjoyed subbing and decided to get her Master’s degree in Secondary Education.

During her summers, Vollmer teaches Kindergarten students in Los Angeles. Her spare time is filled with going to the movies, hanging out with her friends, and reading a good book.

Vollmer has taught the whole range of grade school from k-12, but if it was a specific subject she had to teach, it would be English.

After finishing her profession as a substitute, Vollmer came across a job opening at Uni. Evidently, it is Vollmer’s first choice because it is close to home and has a relatively good reputation.

Overall, Vollmer says she feels “very welcomed” by all. Her experience has been, “so far, so good. The kids are great, and everyone is nice.”
