There is no refuting that some of the most profound memories of a person’s childhood are the songs and story of a classic Disney animated musical, such as Mulan or The Lion King. Disney has not since released as many musicals, with a few exceptions. Disney released a new musical recently, and while it is an adaptation of a tragic event, it manages to call back to the magical and stunning movies that people reminisce about. The movie is of course, Titanic.
While the original Titanic was ingrained into people’s memories as tragic, the new Disney feature will change that to an image of beauty and majesty.
The story is based off of the original Titanic movie directed by James Cameron, with a couple changes. The film is a love story between third class Jack (voiced by Justin Bieber), and Princess Rose (voiced by Madonna). Jack falls in love with Rose on the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, but their different social classes make it difficult.
Jack gets help in the form of his best friend and confidant, Sammy the Seal, who stowed away on the ship and disguised himself as a nobleman. The protagonists must fight through treacherous waters, blizzards, icebeSrgs, all summoned by the evil Ice King. The Ice King began his vendetta against Jack when the two made a bet on a fisherman’s wharf years before. Jack lost the bet and hoped to escape the King’s wrath, but underestimated his power.
The film is scored by Randy Newman, who is famous for the music from other Disney films, such as Toy Story and Princess and the Frog. The standard Disney love song is in the form of the Celine Dion classic, “My Heart Will Go On,” sung by both Bieber and Madonna. The Ice King’s big Broadway musical number is, “Muahaha You’re Drowning!” Other songs include “JK I Let Go” and “I Know I’m a Seal, but Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls.”
Only Disney could remaster the classic film in a heartwarming way. Bieber and Madonna are a match made in casting Heaven. “Age knows no boundaries with their chemistry” said Madonna’s agent.
