SOUP OF STARS: Ocean’s features Hollywood’s finest. -
Advertising
Ocean’s Twelve, the sequel to hit movie Ocean’s Eleven debuted in movie screens on Dec. 10. The entire star-studded cast of the original is back, but this time they are joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones who lights up the screen with her mysterious part as a federal agent.

The movie jumps three years ahead from where Ocean’s Eleven left off. Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, has to pay back his nemesis from the first installment, Terry Benedict, played by Andy Garcia. When someone breaks the Number One Rule of con men not to rat one another out, Benedict fins out where all the eleven thieves are and demands his $160 million back that the wisecracking gang of hustlers stole from him in the first movie. The crafty crew has no choice but to come up with three huge heists that take place in Rome, London, and Berlin to even the score with Benedict.

Although $110 million was spent on making Ocean’s Twelve, with scenes filmed all over Europe, the movie did not meet the high expectations left by its high grossing predecessor Ocean’s Eleven.

The movie does have many elements of a hit, including an awesome cast of today’s hottest stars, such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and many others. The all-star cast amuses audiences with their witty comments and superb acting skills. What disappointed me was the lack of complexity in the plot. The heist was a simple one, even though it was made to appear impossible. The heist was basically a way of confusing their enemy, the one who broke Rule Number One.

Although the movie plays in 3,290-movie theaters nationwide and had a weekend gross of $40.6 million, it had an overall rating of a B- it seemed to let many down. In comparison to the first Ocean’s movie, which had a great plot and hilarious script, the second movie was a huge step down.

Even though the movie wasn’t as entertaining as the first, the superstars make it entertaining. There are still plenty of laughs and enough plot twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a good movie to see with a group of friends when it’s raining outside and there’s nothing better to do.
