Students in animation classes, under the guidance of animation teacher Danna Coonen-Lee, have been working hard all year toward the success of their upcoming Technical Arts and Animations Festival.

This year’s festival will be held June 11 at Stivelman Theater.

The festival will revolve around the theme of recycling and replenishing the planet.

A special ninth grade assembly will be held showcasing the students’ animated projects.

“I’m pretty excited,” said Mark Anthony Grayson, junior.

“We’re pressed to a limit, but we’re starting to get together as groups,” he added.

Many stories, which began as group ideas, were later scripted.

Afterwards, students turned their ideas into storyboards, depicting the progression of different plots.

They put the films together with a camera, specifically designed for animated projects.

The festival will give students a chance to show the rest of the school the animation students’ dedication and hard work.

Students will present films, which they have worked on throughout the year. The films cover a wide array of subjects such as the story of a unique tree, “Ultimate Gifts From the Tree.”

“This [the festival] will give them a chance to show their work,” said Coonen-Lee. “It is a culmination for everyone.”

Previously, students had the opportunity to exhibit their works at worldwide animation festivals.

Through the presentation, animation students hope to show the hard work and effort that goes into creating cartoons.

“Many people see animation on TV and movies and don’t think about how much work goes into it,” said Grayson. “It’s harder than it looks.”
