One of the newest sports here at PBHS is swimming. In its fourth year, the boys’ swimming team is looking to make a name for itself on the sports scene.

“We’re a pretty young team, but our seniors bring a lot of experience,” said sophomore David Allison.

Those seniors are Scott Olsen, Craig Shilling, Gil Richardson, Derrick Allison and Frank Smith.

“We have a good group of seniors this year,” said Shilling. “Although we struggle at times, we’re really working hard toward that first W,” he added.

There have been struggles as a team this season, but the team is constantly getting better with each practice.

That practice has paid off. At a Parkway South meet, the team landed a third-place finish over a Hannibal team in a four-team meet.

The Mules have an upcoming 17-team invitational meet on Jan. 28 in Springfield. After that, unless a team member qualifies for state, the team’s last meet is a conference between Notre Dame and Cape Central on Feb. 3 in Cape Girardeau.
