Over three years ago, the class of ‘08 came to the Poplar Bluff High School as doe-eyed freshmen ready to take on the world. Since then, they have grown to become confident, fun-loving seniors ready to take on the world of college. Their time in high school is soon coming to an end, so on Wednesday, April 2, the senior banquet was held at Costello’s to celebrate their high school years and the people they’ve shared them with.

The theme of the banquet was “Hollywood Night,” and everyone arrived elegantly dressed with most of the girls in cocktail dresses and the boys in dress pants and ties.

“It was fun to see everyone dressed up and pretty,” said Nancy Sorrell, a senior who won the title of “Most Courteous.”

As the class arrived, everyone wrote on a star what they believed they’d be doing in ten years, keeping in mind that their stars would be displayed at their future reunions. Most people wrote places they hope to live or careers they hope to have, but some took the task more lightheartedly, like Leah Gorder, who prophesized that she will be “makin’ babies and dollaz.”

The evening continued on with laughter and chatting in anticipation of the coming awards. A week before the ceremony, the seniors voted for a girl and a boy for each of the year’s senior personalities ranging from “Most Handsome” to “Teacher’s Pet” and a number of other categories. Finally, the red carpet was rolled out and the announcing of the senior personalities

Sadly, many people knew what award they were getting because of a leak, but there were still some who were surprised, such as Kristen Alexander, winner of “Teacher’s Pet,” who said “I was shocked I got the award! It was funny.”

Whether shocked or not, nearly everyone appreciated their Oscar including Hannah Pratt, winner of “Best All-Round” and “Best Personality” who said, “Thanks for the two crunk cups, everybody!”

All the winners of the personalities walked to the front of the room, collected their Oscar shaped award, and had their picture taken by a paparazzi of their peers.

After the last award was announced, the class’ sponsors and Costello’s was thanked and cake was given to any that wanted it. After the ceremony, the class of 2008 left to go on their separate ways to make their own memories elsewhere--much like they will be doing after graduation.
