The boys basketball season has begun and is in full swing. With younger players and a new coach, the team is making some adjustments. Coach Ryan Garnett is the new junior varsity coach for the team.

Junior Chris Kilgore said, “We’re younger than we were last year; (that’s the only difference from last year.)”

Both JV and Varsity teams have had an exciting season which will only get better as time goes on.

Sophomore Zach McAnutly said, “ The most exciting JV game we’ve played was against Scott City. We dominated; we beat them 57-15.”

Kilgore said, “ The game against Fort Zumwalt was the most exciting because they were the number six team in the state, and we beat them.”

As the season progresses, some players feel like they are getting much better.

Freshman Pete Bryant said, “During the season we have grown tremendously, because at the beginning of the season, everybody was doing their own thing and we were losing. When we came together, we began to win and grew as a family.”

Kilgore said, “ Our team chemistry is up. The more you work as a team, the more you will win.”

Even as they grow together, there is still a downside to the game : losing.

Kilgore said, “ Losing (is my least favorite part of the game). I don’t like to lose.”

Bryant said, “After we lose a few games in a row, it discourages the team and makes them not want to give effort on the court.”

The boys have many goals that they are working together to achieve.

McAnutly said, “ (My goal for the team is to) win our district, and also have to JV win the rest of its games.”

Bryant said, “My biggest goal for the team is for JV, Varsity, and the Freshmen to all win their games on the same night.”
