The Poplar Bluff High School Teenage Republicans recently hosted the first Reagan Day in Butler County republican history. The event was on Sat. Aug. 25th and drew around 60 people. The event was a fundraiser to raise money for the club to send delegates to the Teenage Republican National Convention, in Manassas, VA, which will be hosted next July.

At the convention, these teenagers will sit in on meetings with republican congressmen and senators, as well as get a tour of the White House and the United States Capitol.

The event line up included: Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, State Senator Robert Mayer, State Representative Gayle Kingery, State Representative Mike Dethrow, Representative Jo Ann Emerson, Campaign Manager Justin Gibbs, Senator Christopher Kit Bond and District Representative Tom Schulte.

Usually this event is called Lincoln Day and is hosted in February. However, the Butler County Republican Central Committee decided to let the Teenage Republicans host this event so they could raise funds for their trip. So the rally was scheduled for Aug. 25th.

President Mitchell Davis and Vice Presidents Cody Knodell and Derek Spencer immediately started work on the rally. Corey Brown was named Co-Chair of the event, as well as Davis being named Co-Chair. Invites to National and State dignitaries were sent out in May and June. The Lt. Governor responded in early August and attended as a special guest speaker. Rep. Emerson and Sen. Bond were both scheduled to appear, but another Republican conference was scheduled and they had to attend that engagement.

The event kicked off with the Lt. Governor speaking, followed by a meal prepared by Teenage Republican Advisor Libby Brown. Afterwards attendies were treated to entertainment by local singer Jim Todd. After Mr. Todd concluded, Mitchell Davis spoke on behalf of the Teenage Republicans, and introduced Representative Kingery. Each of the representatives and the senator spoke about what is currently going on in Jefferson City.

The event was a huge success, and many are looking forward to a second Reagan Day. Teenage Republican Executive Vice President Cody Knodell said, “My favorite part about Reagan Day was visiting with state and local politicians, and getting the opportunity to introduce Representative Mike Dethrow.”

Teachers on campus were also proud of the Teenage Republicans for a successful event. Mr. Brent Tinker had this to say: “I am very proud of the Teenage Republicans Organzation here at the high school; they have stronger leadership and have developed statewide relationships with other republicans. I also believe that the Teenage Republicans are one of the more finer organizations on campus. They are very professional.”

Overall, Reagan Day was an excellent event, and everyone is looking forward to next year’s.
