826 LA was a “choose to go” field trip held on March 20, 2007. Those who didn’t go missed out. Only half of the 10th grade class, five 11th graders, and two 12th graders attended. This was a good thing. The class started the trip by watching a few minutes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Then we started to discuss the parts of writing a script. After that we took turns trying to creatively think and write a script. The creativity was there, along with laughing, yelling, and agreeing.

In the beginning of the trip Ms. Parent told us the rules and most of the time we stuck to the script writing guidelines. After about two hours of creating drama, suspense, and comedy (which was exhausting but not hard), we were out to lunch. Everyone had pizza, and other food that was provided. Afterward we got back to the chamber of stories and everyone got to end the script however the wanted. Some ended it with drama, others with love, and some with the bitter end.

Even with the small number or students that attended, it was one of the best “learning” field trips. We learned the process involved in script-writing and how to develop stories and characters. Technically it was a fieldtrip…but I just call it fun.
