Abortion. Just the word draws controversy. While teen abortions are legal in California, there are more than 12 states in the U.S that require parents to be notified before a teen abortion. California is not one of them.

Last year, Californians rejected Proposition 73 which would have made it illegal for a physician to perform an abortion on an underage minor without having notified her parents. Voters threw out the proposition 52.6% to 47.4%

The existing law states that a pregnant teen in California who does not wish to tell her parents that she has decided to have an abortion, doesn’t need to tell them. California law does not require her, or her physician, to notify anyone.
