With a 5-7 record, the young tennis team made their way to fourth place in the Western League. Palisades took first, University second, and Westchester third. The Venice team is waiting they wait to see if they will be accepted into invitational finals.

If a team is ranked in the top 12, they make it to the City finals.  If ranked 13-24, they play in the invitational finals, and for the rest, they play in summer games called Watts.

In past years, former Venice players have been quite successful in the Watts summer games. In 2004, a gold medal was issued to Kurt Zweifel in singles, a silver medal was given to Adrian Van in singles, and through excellent teamwork, a bronze medal was issued to Adrian Van and Randy Lee in doubles.

Coach Randy Chew does his best to push his team to their max.

Some of the young athletes participated in a state tournament April 23-24, in Ojai. This invitational tournament only holds seven spots for all of LAUSD, and Venice filled in three of them!

Team captain Mitchell Paul represented the singles; Jordan Beck and Steven Chew played in the doubles.

"There's a lot to say about this young team," states Coach Chew "as we continue to work hard in practice... We'll turn out fine.”
