The Grind Art and Print Gallery is an art gallery situated next to Venice Grind, a local coffee shop in Mar Vista that showcases a lot of upcoming artists from the greater Los Angeles area. Some of the artists that showcase their art are students from Cal Arts Pasadena Arts also have other works displayed at other art galleries.

This art gallery has really warm colors painted on the wall with the lighting held in such a way that it accentuates the paintings on either side of the gallery. There are even small little coffee tables on both sides of the wall to lounge and drink coffee while getting the chance to appreciate art. Visitors can also listen to the really great music in the gallery.

In Los Angeles, the art displayed here is characterized as being “pop surrealism” which is art that is almost like a narrative with beautifully painted art obviously incorporated into it. One artist in particular, Nicole Bruckman, has a lot of layering with actual fabric on her paintings which to the naked eye gives an impression of the artist making these details with a paint brush. All of these aspects give the art more of a realistic feel.

Another artist among many that are displayed here is Ted Von Heiland. He uses a lot of multimedia in his work which at first glance usually is not evident. The newspaper he utilizes in the background can actually be seen only when looking at it from a certain angle.

Currently, the art gallery has a theme called “Love ‘ N Bullets” and consists of art that in some way relates to the theme.

The art gallery director Shahvid Brown along with his two associates are always fond of having people enter the gallery to appreciate the art. Brown stresses how he wants to “erase that separation from gallery and people and wants to talk to people so they can become better affiliated with the art.”

The Grind Art and Print Gallery is completely free and any art fanatics are welcome to wander in and appreciate this diverse array of art.

The hours are Friday through Sunday 1-7 p.m. and it is located at 12222 Venice Blvd between Centinela and Grandview.
