The pentacle is viewed with suspicion. It is seen as a trademark of evil and Satanism.

However, Wiccans do not believe in a Devil, nor in its symbol.

The reversed pentacle, also viewed as a symbol of Satanism, does not indicate evil. It represents a fulfillment of function and growth. Though sometimes seen in Wicca, it is rarely used.

Each point of the star represents one of the elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth. The top point of the star symbolizes the fifth element, Spirit. The circle around the star represents the endless cycle of life: Birth, Growth, Death and Re-birth.

Air-Compass point: East. Represents intellect, communication, knowledge, concentration; the ability to “know” and to understand.

Fire-Compass point: South. Stands for energy, purification, the will to dare, success, creativity and the higher self.

Water-Compass point: West. Associated with intuition, emotions, and the inner self.

Earth-Compass point: North. Characterizes fertility, material abundance, nature, birth and healing.

The pentacle is not only used for protection but also represents Wiccan beliefs. For a Wiccan, there is no symbol more powerful or meaningful.
