With a loss against Marlin at the first round of playoffs, the Lions football season is over for this year. This time of the year is especially heartbreaking for the seniors at THS since their high school football career is finished, but having such a successful season helps. Jared Phillips, Senior at Teague High is a participant in football and baseball.

“This football season was a big turnaround even though we fell short to Marlin,” Phillips stated.

Phillips was the nose guard for the Lions, and a backup quarterback. Looking back, all the football players have favorite memories about the season. A secret tradition that Coach Josh Finney brought with him this year was the “Burning of the Shoe”.

“We had a lot of fun with just the guys. We built a lot of memories and we did the burning of the shoe,” Phillips recalled.

The seniors will definitely be missed after they graduate, especially the underclassmen football players. The seniors also have things that they will miss most and least about this football season.

“What I am going to miss most about football is how much fun we had after a victory,” Phillips mentioned.

For some players, like Phillips, their high school sports are not at all over yet. Although Phillips loves football, he is more of a baseball player. Now that football is over, he is fully focused on and excited for this baseball season.

“I am excited for baseball to start. We have a lot of returning players and will have some people stepping up from JV,” Phillips said.

Phillips and other seniors are already getting the baseball field ready for practice. They know if they want to achieve then they have to practice.

“I expect nothing less than getting first in district and moving on to playoffs to get some victories,” Phillips exclaimed.

Some seniors are looking forward to playing football or one of their other favorite sports in college. Phillips, on the other hand, is ending is career with sports when he graduates.

“All of my memories will be built here in Teague. Even though football is over I still think about it from time to time and miss the success that we had on Friday nights,” Phillips reported.
