On April fifth, thirteen high school students auditioned for the flag line. Brandy Dixon (11) , Markie Hertel (11), Brionna Fisk (11), Megan Cockerham (11), Natalie Yeaman (11), Antwond Burrell , (11)  Carly Atchly (10), Brandy McNett (10), Yazmihn West (9), Kyera Abram(9), Tyler Brown (9),  Darnesha Clark(10) , NiCosha Nelms (8),  and Kenya Busby (8) all tried their luck and performed a routine in front of three judges with high hopes of receiving a position on the line.

After performing a routine, the fight song, and fundamentals, the auditioners waited for the judges to tally the scores.  Brandy Dixon, Markie Hertel, Brionna Fisk, Megan Cockerham, Natalie Yeaman, Antwond Burrell, Carly Atchly, Brandy McNett, Yazmihn West, and Kyera Abram all received high scores and received positions on the 2010-2011 flag line.
“I was really excited when I heard the results,” Brionna Fisk said, “I was the only person who had to audition early because I’m in One Act Play and we had a performance on the day of the tryouts. Even though I’d made the line in the past, I was worried that my performance wouldn’t look as sharp as the other girls and Antwond because I had less time to learn it. I’m extremely happy that I get to be a part of the flag line for my senior year!”

Out of the ten people who received spots, Antwond Burrell was the only person who had never been on the line before.

“The flag line typically consists of girls, and, being the only guy, I was really nervous.  I didn’t know if the judges would allow me to make the line especially since this was my first year to tryout, but I performed well and jumped back in when I messed up. I’m so excited to be the first guy on the flag line,” Antwond Burrell said.

Brandy Dixon, Megan Cockerham, and Natalie Yeaman also received the position of co-captain.

“This year six people auditioned for captain,” Brandy Dixon said, “There was a lot of competition, but luckily the judges only selected three people. Last year four people auditioned for captain, and all four made it.   It was just too many people for such a small group.  I also believe that this year the flag line will look especially sharp because the line consists of people who are hard workers and care about the appearance of the band on Friday nights and competitions.”
