District Tennis is around the corner on May 7, 2010 at Franklin. The tennis players and coaches have been working extremely hard to advance this year.

Junior, Fernando Zambrano, said it is his third year to play tennis at the school, and that he is on varsity. When asked if he was nervous about district he had a very simple answer, “no.” Fernando is playing doubles with Wade Venable. When asked who he thought the biggest competition was he stated “I don’t really think that there is any competition. We’re gonna go in there and dominate. But if I had to pick, Franklin will probably be the biggest.” He also said that he doesn’t “like working on or preparing from a certain event. I just like making myself a better player.”

Senior, Taylor Hamilton, has played tennis for four years and he is on the varsity team. When asked if he was nervous about district he said “not really.” He is playing mixed doubles with Lindsay Hayes. He said that he thinks his biggest competition is Franklin, and that he has been working doubles with my partner.

Senior, Genea Cannon, has been playing varsity tennis for four years and said that she is very nervous about district. “This is my last year to be able to advance to Regionals and Natalie and I have never played doubles together before. But I think we can do well if we think about each individual shot.” When asked who she thought her biggest competition was she said, “I would have to say Franklin or Brandy and Markie. I would definitely say Brandy and Markie because we know them and we might start playing more like it’s a practice.” They have been working on “mainly just doubles, and working on calling shots and net shots.”

Junior, Natalie Yeaman, has been playing varsity tennis for three years. She said that she has “played on the tennis team for three years abut played since [she] was little.” When asked if she was nervous about district she said, “Yes extremely! I’ve never played doubles at district or a tournament but I think if we think about our shots, I know we will play well together.” She said “I honestly think that Brandy and Markie will be our biggest competition.” When asked what have you been working on/doing to prepare for district, she replied “Genea and I have practiced after practice almost every day for a week. We found out that we were doubles partners late, so practicing has been really important for us.”

All of the players have been working extremely hard and focusing on their individual needs. Coach Satterwhite has been a great help with each of the students, as well as the new assistant Coach Persano. Good luck to all those competing in district tennis!
