On Friday December 11^th, Teague High School’s Debate Team competed in a practice meet at Athens High School. The team members who competed consisted of Andrea Johnson, Steven Calixtro, and Ashley Morris. Also accompanying the team were Fernando Zambrano and Makenzie Calame. Unable to attend the meet were Landon Lancaster, and Nick Johnson.

                Andrea Johnson, the only Senior on the team, was the only one to compete in Lincoln-Douglas debate. She felt very confident about this meet, until she arrived there. Johnson had misplaced her case, and with 20 minutes before the first round of debate started, she now had to make a new one. Despite her misfortune, she ended up winning the first two rounds, but came up short the third. With this performance and others prior to it, she would make an interesting debater to watch.

                Competing in CX-Debate were Junior Steven Calixtro and Sophomore Ashley Morris. These are two new debaters this year, and this meet would be their first meet to compete in. Being new to debate and also nervous, they would only end up winning one out of three rounds.

                Coach Keith Gunthrie knows that the team still has a ways to go if they want to be district champions, which is what they are shooting for. Placing first or second in district would automatically advance them to compete at the state level.
