The next CV Cares Collaborative will be held after school in the Career Center on February 28th and March 28th at 3:15pm.

Students who want to make a difference should consider helping the new CV Cares Program. An improved version of the previous Project Success, CV Cares was formed this year to provide support for students with drug, alcohol, or anger issues.

To further help CV students, the CV Cares Program has scheduled a Collaborative meeting every month to help improve the quality and the safety of CV.

“The Collaborative is a process in which you bring together teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, students, and also people from the community,” explained Betty Barnes, the CV Cares counselor. “Everyone comes to talk about how CV handles the different issues. We also discuss problems that are occurring in CV and the community.”

Those at the CV Cares Collaborative not only talk about the problems that are arising here in our community but they also offer suggestions and ideas to fix those problems. Students are encouraged to share their concerns regarding the state of the school.

Students who contribute to the CV Cares Collaborative will not only improve the community and our school, but will also be awarded community service hours for their time and ideas.

The CV Cares Collaborative meeting is one of the many strategies that the CV Cares Program has implemented to enhance the security of both community and school.

“Many students are dealing with situations where they feel like they are not in good control of themselves and their habits or they get into situations where they do not make the right decision,” commented Principal Evans. “To help the students, we have a counselor here everyday who can invest the time and effort into those students.”

Although all counselors here on campus are trained to assist students with their issues; the grant for the program has enabled the school to have a specialist, a counselor focusing on these areas of concern.

Barnes is required by oath to keep all information from students confidential. She is also required by law to report any instances where a student is being abused or is a threat to his or herself or even to the community.

Even though the CV Cares Program was created this year, both Barnes and the administrators have high goals for it.

“We are really proud to have this program on campus and we are proud to be able to serve those students and their parents,” commented Evans.
