For the second consecutive year, juniors and seniors labored hard to return Powder Puff football to its full force. Years ago, when this event was greatly supported by the school, the game occurred in the McPherson College stadium, complete with male cheerleaders and an exuberant crowd.

Due to fights and disagreements among the players, the school disconnected its flow of support for Powder Puff.

Our administration had a right to discontinue their sponsorship due to this fighting, a fact that many students choose to not understand. Those who began this problem should have acted their age and solved their issues in a different manner, or at least elsewhere.

Since the game has returned to MHS students, the Powder Puff participants have completely organized their own event. Coaches were chosen, T-shirts purchased, players practiced at houses, and the game was held innocently in a community park. The teams set a precedent that did not include injuries and disagreements.

The administrators should acknowledge this precedent. They have made it clear that petty fighting and bad sportsmanship are unacceptable, therefore Powder Puff participants are unlikely to behave this way again if the event was sponsored by the school.

No matter how senseless they may be, fights occur in sports every year. If a football player picks such a fight with an opponent, he is generally punished by his coach-but football is never completely cancelled.

Obviously, Powder Puff is not a sport in which we compete against other schools, but it is an aspect of high school that many do not want to miss out upon. Whether or not Powder Puff is held in the college stadium, it is unfair of the school to go to such measure to disorganize this event. Just as those who hold concerts, youth group events, hurricane runs and birthdays, Powder Puff organizers should have the right to post flyers around the school and make announcements over the intercom.

If the school refuses to stand beside the Powder Puff event, it should at least not stand in the way.
