Hustling between rooms while directing traffic and tallying scores, forensics members multi-tasked during their annual tournament on April 6. There were nine teams that attended.

“It was probably the smoothest tournament we’ve run thus far,” Julia Groeblacher, jr., said. “It was nice to have people from Hays, Wichita, etc., come in on a weeknight since they’re so far away.”

Kate Fraser, sr., supported Groeblacher’s feelings.

“It was a lot of fun to run. It ran perfectly,” Fraser said.

Besides hosting the tournament, the team has been working hard in its individual events. They have 31 state qualifiers who will compete on May 7.

“I think we’ve had a lot of individual success. Our only problem is putting them all together for a solid entry,” Francisco Vieyra, sr., said.

Scott Bonnet, head coach, is also impressed with this season so far and hopes the success will continue.

“Next weekend, we’re attending the West Kansas NFL national qualifier and we’re hoping to get some people to the national championships,” Bonnet said.

Besides qualifying for nationals, Bonnet also hopes to do well at state.

“We’d also like to return to our rightful place as 5A state champions.”

To achieve success at state, forensics members must sacrifice free time to practice their pieces.

“Everyone has his own practice schedule. I spend an hour or two on my speeches a day,” Groeblacher said.

The team will travel to Wichita Southeast to compete this weekend.
