Marriage has been defined as a sacred bond between one man and one woman. Now this definition has become a subject of debate across the United States. Religious beliefs versus personal preference.

“I don’t personally believe in it [homosexual marriage], but I’m not sure the constitution of the United States gives anyone the right to outlaw it,” John Lujano, history, said.

A heated battle has arisen as to whether or not the government really has the legal right to outlaw the marriage of same sex couples, with the division of church and state being greatly compromised.

On Tuesday, April 5, the state of Kansas voted in order to ban homosexual unions. Seventy percent of those that voted did so in favor of the amendment.

“I feel it [banning gay marriage] is a very sad indicator on the whole state of Kansas,” Erek Speed, sr., said.

Now that homosexual unions have been banned in the state of Kansas, will the state be moving forward or backward as a society?

Speed voted against the gay marriage ban for several reasons. He feels that those in support of the ban are uncomfortable with the subject.

“I seriously feel that because they’re uncomfortable with it [homosexual unions] they try to push it as far away from them as possible,” Speed said. “This is just another method to do that.”
