Now being used for History One and Psychology classes, www.moodle.mcpherson.com has proved to be a great success. According to students, it has provided them with a great opportunity that increases their ability to participate in class.

“It gives you the assignment and you can get on the internet,” Ashley Morehead, soph., said. “You don’t have to keep track on paper and you don’t lose it.”

This new program has given students a chance to experience something new. It allows easy access and better control.

“It helps me keep track throughout the semester,” Derek Dibbens, sr., said. “You see changes throughout the kids and it’s easier to understand.”

Moodle offers students links, schedules, and ways to communicate with the teacher. Students can keep track of assignments they have missed or assignments that will soon be due.

Although it’s advantages are evident, Moodle also has some setbacks, for instance it’s not available to all students.

“Not everyone has internet so some kids may not be able to get to it so it pulls them back,” Morehead said. “I think they need to change it to where everything is done in class and not at home.”

Another problem that some students have faced may not be quite as obvious.

“Probably forgetting the password [would be the greatest setback for me], I’ve done that three times,” Dibbens said.

Should Moodle be applied to all classes as a way of allowing the remaining student body easy access to classes?

“Yeah, but I think they need to change it to where everything is done in class and not at home because not everyone has the internet,” Morehead said.

Bruce Lolling, History One and Psychology, uses moodle with his students.

“For my history kids it allows me to lay out everything in front of them and they can’t lose it,” he said. “It is a paper saving way to be sure students can access assignments.”

However, even the teachers that use the program have found slight problems with it, but they are easily offset by the benefits.

‘There are limitations,” Lolling said. “It doesn’t have the freedoms other programs have. But you can’t argue with free.”

Moodle will continue to be used throughout the years as a program to help students.
