Love is in the air as Valentine's Day is drawing near. Floral shops and gift shops are preparing themselves for the stampede of last minute shoppers. Luckily, FCCLA members are presenting an opportunity for students to buy flowers in a cheap and easy way.

Since flowers aren’t allowed to be sent through the main office, students are able to send their friends and their secret crushes carnations.

Kat Dick, sr. and FCCLA pres., is the person in charge of organizing the event.

“I had to call every floral place in the surrounding area, calculate how many were sold last year and estimate how many would be needed this year,” Dick said.

Last year FCCLA sold 700 carnations and ordered 900 for this year. Money raised will go towards paying for the other half of membership cost.

Carnations were sold for one dollar during first and second lunch or from any FCCLA member through the 28th of Jan. Flowers will be handed out Monday Feb. 14, first through fourth hours.

To prepare, 18 FCCLA members set up the cards and ribbons during activity hour. On Sunday before Valentine’s Day, members will prepare the flowers to be handed out.

Fran Stucky, FCCLA sponsor of 28 years says it has been tradition since before she was the sponsor to sell carnations.

FCCLA isn’t just about selling carnations however.

“FCCLA encourages positive family, community, and leadership skills,” Stucky said.

Dick joined because Stucky is her grandmother so she wanted a club where she could have somebody to relate to, she was honored by becoming president. Her job as president is to overlook events making sure everything goes smoothly and help officers with ideas.
