In addition to class projects, members of the art department have been working diligently to beautify the school’s hallways.

Members of TASMAD initially provided the idea of the mural. The club has sponsored the project, purchasing the required materials.

The mural, featured in two main hallways, depicts a variety of different aspects of the high school experience. One hallway, now complete, portrays athletics. Representations of the arts and of academics are displayed in the opposite hallway. According to Gretchen Elliot, Art, deciding the overall design was not difficult for the Art Guild.

“We knew we were going to do two murals so we decided to do sports and academics,” Elliot said.

Students painting the mural also approve of the different aspects depicted in the project.

“[We are doing the two sides] To cover everything so no one gets left out,” Drew Porter, jr., said.

Creating the mural has proven to be a very involved process. Art Guild members have been laboring on the project often throughout the week.

“We work on it Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school and any time during activity days,” Traci Becker, sr., said.

Elliot feels that the mural will benefit the school in a variety of ways.

“I think it’s part of the overall beautification process and we’re [the arts] in our own section of the school, so people don’t always see our work,” Elliot said.
