GOLF

Golf was the most successful spring sport this year, rolling through league play with a 14-0 record. However, it all came crashing down at the section tournament, May 4. The team shot 481 and finished just sixth out of 12 teams.

Senior Nick Foote led the team at sections, shooting an 85.

Other normally successful players were disappointed with their scores. Senior Emile Bourgeois had hoped to shoot at least an 82, but some miscues in the putting game resulted in a round of 91.

Rey Rickert shot a 95, Tom Lincoln shot 96, Tag Ashby shot 114, and Cabot Jackman shot a 120.

Senior Miles Bennett-Smith, who shot several successful rounds this season, was unable to compete due to conflicts with the AP French examination and baseball.

Turlock Christian won the tournament and advanced to Masters.

The Cavs will have to rebuild next year, as they must replace Bourgeois, Foote, Ashby, and Rickert.

SOCCER

The girls’ soccer team rallied to make the playoffs, going 3-0-1 in its last four league games.

But the postseason brought much tougher competition.

A bus brought the players and fans to Forest Lake Christian, located in Auburn, on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, where the team was overwhelmed, 7-0. The powerful Falcons jumped out to a five-goal lead at halftime and never looked back.

The Cavs were dominated in every phase of the game, outrun for seemingly every free ball.

Forest Lake made it to the section title game before falling to Bradshaw Christian, 2-1. The Cavs beat Bradshaw 2-1 in a league game this year.

The girls finished 13-7-1.

SOFTBALL

Despite finishing with just a 2-10 overall record, the softball team made the playoffs, sneaking in by finishing third in a league of just four teams.

The girls relied on walks in their crucial back-to-back league wins. They first came back to beat Faith Christian 24-23, then held off Sacramento Adventist in a 22-19 victory.

But in the playoffs, the team was unable to catch up to a strong Jim Elliot Christian pitching staff, and was blown out 18-1. The game was stopped after five innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

The Cavs did not beat themselves with walks and errors, but could not come up with any answers against the Eagles, surrendering 19 hits.

Jim Elliot then went on to win the section title. The Cavs have a good chance of returning to the postseason next year, as they lose  only two seniors.
