Across the street from Faces Nightclub, wedged between Badlands Dance Club and an exotic novelty shop, Hot Rods is not just an ordinary hamburger shack.

Located in the heart of Sacramento’s gay district, Hot Rods attracts an ethnically and sexually diverse crowd.

Hot Rods opened in 2005 on the corner of K and 20th street. Since then, it has been renowned for its classic burgers, wide variety of side orders, thick milkshakes, and funky atmosphere.

The burgers range from a single patty for $3.49 to a pounder for $7.49. For those who prefer to eat something besides meat, Hot Rods also makes garden and Boca burgers for $4.79.

The restaurant’s late hours, closing at 2 a.m Sunday through Thursday and 3 a.m on Fridays and Saturdays, aren’t as crazy as they seem.  Hot Rods’s busiest hours are 1-2 a.m.

Because of the nightclubs surrounding the burger shack, many clubbers come in afterwards to get a bite to eat.

According to employees, on Friday and Saturday nights, you can usually find a few transgender customers, drag queens or a group of clubbers passed out on top of their food.

An additional odd aspect of the restaurant is the bathroom policy. A strict list of what you cannot do or bring in the bathroom is posted in front of the door.

One of the rules stated in the bathroom policy is that only one person is allowed in the bathroom at a time. This is the most enforced rule in the restaurant.

Red walls and chrome tabletops add to the fun appearance of the restaurant along with two flat-screen TVs that continuously play fun, upbeat music videos all day.

Photos of Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, and Enrique Iglesias dot the walls. Large, plastic golden stars and rainbow wind socks hang from the ceiling.

For those who are looking for something out of the ordinary, try going to Hot Rods between 1-2 a.m.
