Dakota Valley High School is the most crowded it’s ever been. This is forcing the district to expand. “Nice, modern, and up to date,” said Superintendent Al Leber referring to school expansion plans. The 3.4 million dollar high school addition will be paid off in ten years by paying more than 300 thousand dollars a year, according to the district’s school board.



The new part of the school will include new locker rooms, an expanded band room, two regular classrooms and an art room. The art room will have separate areas for each type of class that Mrs. Midge Zimmerman teaches. “Better acoustics!” said Mr. Daryl Jessen about the band room he will be getting. All the rooms combined will allow 80-100 more students to be taught in the high school.

Koch-Hazard Architects, Inc. from Sioux Falls designed the blue prints for the building. School administrators gave the architects ideas for the building. The plans took about 10 months to complete.

Lead architects for the project are Chris Schiltz and Jeff Dolan. The new addition is set to be done around August 1st of next summer, just in time for the next school year.
