Shaghauyegh Azar is a multi-faceted student who excels in academics, sports, and her social life. This month, Azar was chosen by her counselor as Young Woman of the Month for her achievements in Beckman’s Four A’s. She admitted, “I always knew that it was a big award, but I did not know what it was about. I’ve imagined receiving it, but never realized I actually would!”
Azar is now a senior and loving it! She happily noted, “I am really excited to be a senior because it has been my best year yet and is filled with a lot of new experiences.” Her favorite experience as a senior was preparing for the Harry Potter-themed Homecoming. Decorating the hallways was particularly enjoyable for this young woman. “I am a big Harry Potter fan!” she added.
In her final year of high school, Azar seems to enjoy AP Government with Mr. Bowman the most. She explained, “Mr. Bowman knows how to make his class fun, but makes sure that we learn.” However, Azar looks forward to graduating and finally being able to know where she will be attending school the next year. College is something that makes Azar simultaneously excited and nervous, regardless of location. As of now, she waits to hear back from the University of California, Los Angeles, Berkeley, or the University of Southern California. These schools’ strong academic programs and closeness to home appeal to her the most. In the future, Azar hopes to either become a neurosurgeon or cardiac surgeon because the field of medicine has always been her favorite and the brain and heart were especially interesting to her.
Azar has a lot of things going on in her life and a lot of exciting activities awaiting her. Some of her final goals as a Beckman Patriot are to keep her grades up and gain entry into her top-choice universities. Although Azar is finished with her most difficult year, her biggest challenge of a new life is still ahead of her.
