When the subject of the upcoming Lip Sync Show is brought up in conversation, students rave about how exciting the night will be. What they do not acknowledge is the hard work it takes to man such a production, a production that has never been put on before, no less.
Wynnie Thoi knows a little something about the amount of time and effort that needs to be put forth in order to put on a successful Lip Sync Show. As Historian of the Vision of Hope Club on campus, Thoi has some huge responsibilities in regards to the show. “There’s a lot to do when you put on a show like this. It’s been crazy, creating deadlines and maintaining some minor problems, but it will all be worth it,” Thoi revealed.  One of the aforementioned “minor problems” had to do with the actual date of the Lip Sync Show.   “Originally, we had planned for it to be this week [November 20]. But since it’s the day New Moon comes out, we had to change it,” she said with a shrug. She joked, “You can’t defy today’s culture!” Also, November 20 was Beckman’s first Varsity Football CIF game. With flexibility from Thoi and the Vision of Hope board, the show has been pushed back to December 4.
Thoi co-choreographed the opening of the show and choreographed the finale. Her eyes lit up with excitement at the mention of her choreographing debut. “I want the opening of the show to be something catchy and exciting, then end with a huge finale to blow everyone away!” Realizing she had said too much, she continued with a laugh, “That’s all I can say! Everyone will just have to come to the show to see how it all plays out.”
With such a brief amount of dance background under her belt, some might wonder how Thoi can pull off choreography all on her own. But with some inspiration from music videos and the TV show So You Think You Can Dance, and a little bit of her own creativity, she is doing just fine. In fact, the bright-eyed senior makes the task of choreographing a number seem almost too easy. “There’s really nothing to it. I have a good idea of what I want the finale to look like, I just have to add in some basic dance moves to fill in the spaces,” she shared.
The Lip Sync Show, which is nearing at a fast pace, will be a chance for Thoi to show how her hard work and dedication has paid off.
Working with the Lip Sync Show has been a little hectic with all the practices and differing schedules, but it's a really great experience to be a part of such a large event, so I'm super excited to see the final product!” Thoi disclosed. There is expected to be a huge turnout due to the hilarious propaganda video from Media Arts, and Thoi cannot wait to introduce her choreographing talent to her fellow students.
