At-a-glance

Indvik's taste in music covers both ends of the spectrum, just like her personality. -

Music is often known to be influential and poignant enough to cause people to feel what the artist is trying to portray. Sometimes, the song will be crazier than the artist intends, but the artists will have an easier time getting their music out there, considering the fact that their songs will not blend in with the others. Celeste Indvik is no exception to this rule. Growing up, she was inspired by the music that her older sister would listen to, which includes a combination of both hip hop and metal. These are two completely different genres that represent Indvik’s spontaneous personality.

As if her music interests aren’t contradicting enough, Indvik’s personality has driven her to become a part of both the Beckman Varsity Cheer and Wrestling teams. In addition, when she is not at practice for either sport, she spends the remainder of her time practicing in the Beckman Choir. Although her music interests seem to hit completely different ends of the music spectrum, Indvik’s  taste in music comes from her personal interest and her surroundings. She
commented, “I don’t like rock, I don’t like country. One of the main
reasons why I like metal is because my sister has always listened to
Rob Zombie, and that grew on me.” Indvik mentioned her sister a few
times, illustrating the fact that she has a strong influence on Indvik’s interests. Thus, metal, a completely different genre of music, is one of Indvik’s favorite today. Aside from wrestling and listening to metal, Indvik shows a completely different side during cheer practice-- when only the latest pop culture music is
incorporated into the team’s dances.

Indvik loves to dance and sing. Having performed from a young age, Indvik is not one to be shy when it comes to having a full audience focus its attention on her. Her confidence gave her the strength to perform in school talent shows as well as in front of an audience of nearly one-thousand people. With a love for both singing and dancing, it is no wonder Indvik claims, “Music has always been a passion to me; it is a way to control my stress or if I am sad or super happy, it can
always find a way to make me feel carefree.” When singing, Indvik finds comfort in the songs by an artist whom she admires, Alicia Keys. She said, “Her songs are powerful in a sense for women; they have a positive effect and even though she might be writing about her being mad or sad, it doesn’t sound like an angry song.” Indvik’s optimistic views on life have influenced her to love her last and favorite
artist, Daft Punk. She stated, “Their music is crazy, and I think anyone could jam to it. It is awkward but fun and exciting at the same time. It definitely brings out my inner personality.” Most would agree that Indvik is anything but awkward, and her carefree personality definitely shows. Her love for music will only grow exponentially.

Although she does not see a career in music in her future, Indvik will never leave the memories and love for music behind her. It will continue to stay with her as a hobby to always cherish. Her intention for next year is to attend
Hawaii Pacific University with a major in nursing.
