Sonaz Izadi started as a freshman at Beckman High School four yeas ago; four years later, she has became one of the most active students on the school campus. Izadi describes her past times as a Beckman high school student and her goals for her future.

Each year has been a growing experience for Izadi, building new and stronger friendships and being involved in various school activities. Izadi loved being a part of the Patriot family since it was filled with opportunities that she had never imagined would be possible for her to obtain in different schools. Izadi explained, “At first, I was going to attend an art school, but when I came to Beckman, I never knew that I would have this much opportunity for me to accomplish my goals and do what I wanted.” Izadi is pleased with the progress that she has made here during her time in Beckman's artistic programs.

In school, Izadi performed in two different plays, Our Town and The Crucible. In Our Town she played Emily Webb, a sixteen year old girl that required simple acting but a variety of personalities. In The Crucible, Izadi played Abigail Williams. This character was a real challenge for Izadi because she needed to convey a lot of raw emotion and show the extent of her talent on stage. Izadi commented, “The Crucible was a huge risk that I was taking because it was really hard for me, at first, to bring out the real emotions that I needed during the play, but once I found it, it became something I enjoyed doing.” These two plays were her favorite not only because she was the lead role, but also because she was able to learn and truly obtain the idea of acting. Izadi is also the Treasurer of the Thespian Society, Troop #7342. This is a theater organization, where students meet and compete by acting in front of an audience. Izadi won first place in the competition in southern California, and also won first place in a scholarship acting program. For her next stage in the competition, she will be going to Nebraska at the end of June for the International Thespian Competition.

Izadi wants to major in acting, in the area of BFA, or Bachelor of Fine Arts. Izadi has been accepted into the Theatre School of DePaul University in Chicago. Only 42 students have been picked to be recognized as participants in what purposefully is an “audition” to be asked back to study there. Only 25 out of the 42 students will be asked back by the school. Izadi commented, “I’m really happy that I was able to make it into the first 42, but I hope I could be asked back to study there permanently. I want to learn as much as I can, and show the staff at DePaul what I can bring to the table, so that I could be asked back.” The school is based on an “asking back” process where the students study and act for a year, and they are chosen based on their studying and acting styles.

Izadi believes that all students should take the opportunity if they are given one, and show people what they have learned by giving everyone everything you have. With her prominent acting career at Beckman, Izadi wants to take a bigger leap forward, in search of her dreams of performing, one day, on Broadway.
