TUSTIN- The long awaited game between the Beckman soccer team and Tustin High's team took place at the Tustin High Northrup Stadium on Saturday, December 20. The Beckman Patriots left empty-handed, leaving the city rivalry trophy they competed for in Tustin's hands. Tustin defeated Beckman High with a score of 1-3.

Intensity was present from the start of the game. Both teams were competing to prove which team was superior. Within the first couple minutes of the game, the Tustin Tillers passed Beckman's defense and Senior Captain Ernesto Hinojosa, #11, forward, scored, bringing the Tillers to the top. The Patriots were unable to score and catch up with Tustin. The first half ended with the score standing at 0-1.

The tension mounted as the ball moved quickly across the field at the start of the second half. Beckman continued to fight for the ball, but Tustin quickly took control of the ball again and was able to move across the field. Tiller Senior Juan Velasquez, # 6, midfield, made in a shot, changing Tustin's lead to two. Beckman was finally able to obtain the ball and Senior Patriot David Park, forward, made the first and only Beckman goal. The tension continued to build dramatically and both teams pushed towards victory. Senior Patriot Juan Martinez, #9, forward, and Tiller Captain Alex Garcia, #14, defense, got in a fight, pausing the game for a couple minutes. Garcia commented, "He was getting desperate because he couldn't get past our defense, which caused him to kick me purposely." He continued, "His arrogance led my temper to fire up." Although Tustin was taking the lead, they didn't want to end the game at 1-2.

Once again, Tiller Ernesto Hinejosa moved quickly past the Patriot defense and obtained their third and final goal. Minutes later, the game ended with a score of 1-3. Martinez commented, "I knew it was going to be a complicating game due to the injuries of some of my teammates." Tiller Hinejosa stated, I never underestimated them based on their previous performances, and that led me to do my best, and the stats resemble this." Patriot Martinez explained, "Even though it was a tragic loss we are still mentally focused to do well in league." Garcia finished and said, "Our defense was a fortress." Beckman returned Tustin's trophy and will have to wait one year to compete for it again.
