The Beckman Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team are preparing to kick off the new season with fresh faces and new talent.

With the previous seniors having left, this year’s senior class is ready to push the team towards victory. This upcoming season the team is composed of 13 seniors. The seniors include Kim Billy, #12, mid field, Timmy Yoon, #3, forward, Steve Yang, #4, mid field, Aaron Cespedes, #6, mid field, Manono Alamilla, #8, defense, Juan Martinez, #9, mid field, Adan Ortiz, #10, forward, Jimmy Shiba, #11, defense, David Park, #12, forward, Jordy Lopez, #13, defense, Sejin Bae, #15, forward, Jonathan Vargas, #16, defense, Carlos De Leon, #23, mid field, Peter Park, goal keeper, and David Yang, goal keeper.

Fresh new faces are ready to conquer the field as well. Junior Varsity players and Freshman-Sophomore players from the 07-08 season have moved up to the Varsity team and will be participating this season. Eric Mejia, #17, mid field commented, “I moved up from Frosh-Soph to Varsity and it feels good playing on the Varsity team.”

This season the team has two injured star players. Both junior Ivan Bustos, mid field, and junior Keith Lawson, goal keeper, will be out this entire season due to injury. Head Coach Brad Bohn commented about the injured players, saying, “It’s hard to replace star players but people always step up.”

Like any other team, the soccer team has goals and ambitions they are hoping to reach. Coach Bohn commented on how they have “inexperienced players” this season, but he is hoping to see “a lot of growth throughout the year.” He is hoping for his players to be “better at the end.” Senior De Leon stated, “I feel this season is going to be far more difficult than last year.” He continued, “We have been working very hard during practice and hope to have a succesful season and hopefuly win league.” Last year's season the boys got disqualified from CIF in the second round by losing to Paramount High School. This year they are hoping to go further into CIF competitions.

Overall the varsity soccer team is looking forward to the city rival game against Tustin High School. The game will be held on Saturday, December 20, at the Tustin High School Northrup Stadium.  Senior Martinez stated, “We’re expecting twice the effort and to play every minute of the game with everything that we have.” De Leon added, “Of course we are hoping to defend our title against our rivals, Tustin High.
