Most juniors tend to work at the local apparel store or fast food restaurant. Unlike those common jobs of picking up clothes or food off the dirty floor after long hours at work, junior Niloufar Sobhani decides to take a different approach and work at a radio station on Radio Iran 670 AM KIRN (Persian radio show), while helping out the audiences including teens with their social issues.

When Sobhani was in the seventh grade, she was listening to 670 AM KIRN during their Youth Show, where teens and psychologist Dr. Shireen Noorvi talk about social and family issues. The day Sobhani was listening, the Youth Show had a game in which she had won and was rewarded a spot on the radio show every Sunday. Niloufar explains, “We talk about peace and on how you can overcome your problems [at] school and [with] your family.” Not only does her job interest her, but Sobhani says it builds her understanding of the world around her, expressing, “When I research for the show I improve my knowledge. The more I listen, the more my comprehension of a problem improves from the callers, from the show and from the psychologist that I work with. I get the opportunity to see both sides of the situation.” But Sobhani’s job isn’t only to listen and advise her callers, but she also has a chance to talk and hang out with famous Persian entertainers, as well as other talk show hosts and DJs’ while discussing new ideas.

With so much to do before she graduates from high school such as keeping up with school and the radio show, Sobhani likes to think of her future. According to Sobhani, this gig on the radio show as a guest every Sunday night definitely reflects on her future career, stating, “My goal is to become a singer and when I talk in front my listeners, my self confidence rises and that is going to be good for my future.”

With a steady career already, this is for sure not the last time we will hear from Niloufar Sobhani. For now, she enjoys her junior year and loves to help out her fellow teens as well as adults. “Our main goal [the radio show itself] is to answer the people's questions and to help them make a difference in their lives. My main goal is to improve my ability to understand issues that people go through and to gain [the] self confidence that everyone deserves.”
