He is the true Man of Mystery, sneaking around campus and solving all our computer troubles. He is known as none-other-than The Tech Guy. Yet, have any of us Beckman students taken the time to meet the man behind the monitor? Garett Moreau, our resident Computer Support Specialist, takes time out of his busy schedule to sit down and talk:

Aryn Sanderson: How long have you been working at Beckman? What is your prior work experience? What is your level of formal education?

Garett Moreau: I started in early April of 2006. My first job was the typical teenager job; being at a random place at a random mall. I basically grew up around computers and have been around them for so long that it's just second nature to me. I worked freelance for quite some time and have had numerous computer-related jobs as well as all kinds of other positions that don't relate to my current one in the least. I graduated from Orange High School (Panthers) in 2002 at 17 and I went to S.C.C. right after that. A sob story arises somewhere in the middle but now here I am and I'm going back to school.

AS: What was your high school experience like?

How does it compare to what you see at Beckman on a day-to-day basis? Did you fit any high school stereotypes (examples: popular, misfit/rebel, geek)?

GM: My high school experience was pleasant while I was there. I was very quiet and kept to myself for the first few years but I was popular toward the end of it. I wrote a lot through high school, mostly about sociality and mostly all in my quiet days. But I don't pay too close attention to what everyone else thinks about me.

AS: What is your current musical taste?

GM: I will listen to nearly anything although given the choice, I'd pick a few bands. Death Cab for Cutie, Rise Against, Hellogoodbye, Tatu, the list goes on forever... literally. I'm not so into the hardcore gangster rap but alternative, classical, R&B ... basically every other genre as far as Gregorian chant including several languages I don't completely understand. So, I guess I'm pretty open to really any type of music, but these days it seems that most genres are merging into one another and it's pretty tough to classify them so easily with strict boundaries.

AS: What does your job entail?

GM: Beckman's technology rivals that of most colleges I've seen and I can only assume it sets numerous examples on the subject for others. I'd like to think that I help keep the flagship floating.

AS: If you could change anything about your high school experience, what would you change?

GM: If I had the choice to change something about my high school experience, it would be to change the way so many people are afraid to say so many things and afraid to stand up and voice who they really are or how they really feel. I'd also have everyone's tough-guy or valley girl image wiped clean and have it not matter - because it doesn't. Respect all; fear none. I'm not much of a fan for materialism so I really wouldn't change a thing outside of that.

AS: How would you describe yourself?

GM: Haha... I despise this question. I'd really prefer to prove to people who I am by my actions as opposed to merely describing what I wish I was like. I just don't find it worthwhile to describe myself when it would be completely disregarded by assumptions made about me anyway. *shrug* But if you insist - brutally honest, thoughtful, caring, and deep.

AS: What are your favorite television shows?

GM: Any show I like watching I download and watch on my computer anyway. The only two shows (as of late) that I've been interested in are House and Prison Break. Who's Line is it Anyway? is probably my favorite show of all time and Price is Right is right up there next to it.

AS: Any embarrassing secrets you’d be comfortable spilling (example: a certain love for Brittney Spears)?

GM: I'd really love to give you one since I feel I have nothing to hide but I can't quite muster one up. I'm sorry to disappoint but no, I have no such love for Brittney Spears or any other celebrity for that matter.

AS: What are the biggest misconceptions people have about you?

GM: People are usually pretty quiet towards me so I really don't get to hear what they think about me anyway. I can only assume that people don't find me approachable because of the usual lack of expression on my face, but smiles and hospitality come quickly and friendships are priceless.
