After a successful weekend spent at the Rowland Varsity Tournament, the Beckman Girls brought home a win on December 12, 2006 against Pacifica. The girls began the game with Candace Chen winning the initial sprint. Chen also scored both of the goals in the first quarter, leading to the close score of 2-1. In the second quarter, Ali Woolet scored an amazing goal from nine meters. Also, Kristen Kerler and Stephanie Post scored one and two goals, respectively, to bring the halftime score to 6-2.

After the halftime break, the girls presented evidence of their hard work in practice by scoring a series of skillful goals. Stephanie Post scored from nine meters with an extremely fast shot. Candace Chen took advantage of a foul outside five meters to score another goal. Later in the quarter, Ali Woolett performed an accurate sweep shot and scored. Together, the girls brought up the score to 9-2.

In the final quarter, Candace Chen scored a goal from a goal rush after a missed shot. Ali Woolett scored two back-to-back one on nobody goals off of counterattacks. Finally, Stephanie Post scored a goal from a long distance with only 49 seconds remaining on the game clock, finishing the final quarter at 13-6. Goalie Lisa Thompson totaled 15 blocks during the game.

“I think that our team played really well compared to our other games. We played like a team”, stated Candace Chen. Many positive comments were made about the girls from the table to the stands. “The girls did great. Stephanie did great,” Adam Bentley said. With a slew of victories behind them, the Girls Varsity Water Polo team seems to be on a roll. As they will continue to work and play hard, the future is looking bright for the Beckman girls. Coach French said that “The girls seemed to get together as a team. They were thinking like water polo players and working as a unit. I believe this could be the start of a winning season.”
