Within the past week, news of Beckman’s senior parking spaces has reached surprising media resources. This new idea sprang up when Senior Class President, Manny Velazco, heard about parking spots that were offered to athletes of the week and cheerleaders at El Dorado High School in Placentia. According to information found by the Irvine World News, Beckman “is the first school in Tustin Unified to do such a fundraiser.” As a result, various media sources have contacted Manny with curiosity about this privilege for the Seniors here at Beckman.

On the morning of December 13th, Manny Velazco called in to KIIS FM after Ryan Seacrest asked to interview him on his idea for personalized parking spots for the Seniors at Beckman. After learning about how Manny became Beckman’s Senior class president, he then asked him for more details about the personalized parking spaces. As Manny explained how the personal parking spaces would help when a Senior was running late to class, Ryan Seacrest reminisced about the problems he had with parking in college. When Senior, J.C. Ulrich heard about Manny’s KIIS FM interview, he said he was “surprised Manny was going to talk on the radio.” In addition to this nationwide radio exposure, Manny was also interviewed by reporters from KOCE’s segment called “Real Orange.”

This press coverage seems to be a sign of the great opportunity BHS seniors have. Manny hopes that this “press coverage will encourage more Seniors to purchase a spot.” So Seniors take advantage of this unique privilege and purchase your own parking spot in the student store now. The price is still $25 if you paint your own spot on one of the school's painting days or $30 if you want the Senior Council to paint it for you. You must have a parking permit on file in order to buy a parking spot.

A reminder to those who have already or plan to purchase their parking spots at the $25 price by this Friday: The day to paint your parking spot is this Saturday, December 16th from 9-10 A.M. If you do not make it to this painting day and did not pay the extra fee to have the Senior Council paint your spot for you, your student account will be charged the extra $5.
