Kanye West recently apologized to Taylor Swift after the VMAs ordeal back in 2009. It happened after Taylor Swift's victory in the Best Female Video category for "You Belong With Me," which beat out Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)." Just moments after Swift accepted the Moonman and began her acceptance speech, West stormed the stage, taking the microphone from Swift to announce that Beyoncé deserved the award. "I'm really happy for you. I'll let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," Kanye said to Taylor Swift as she tried to accept her award. According to sources at the VMAs, Swift was seen hysterically crying backstage after Kanye's outburst. According to the New York Post, West was drinking hours before, and there were pictures that surfaced on People.com with Kanye carrying a bottle of Hennessy on the red carpet. Many fans and critics turned their backs when he disgraced the country sweetheart’s moment.
Senior Anisah Odums, was one of the fans that turned their backs on Kanye, “I like seriously could not believe he did that. Taylor Swift is awesome and she totally deserved the award. Kanye deserved losing his career.” Because of that, Kanye has been out of the limelight since.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, after a quiet year, and with the VMAs this Sunday, Kanye went on his new Twitter account and tweeted a series of messages apologizing to Taylor Swift, “Beyoncé didn’t need that, MTV didn’t need that and Taylor and her family, friends and fans definitely didn’t want or need that.” Kanye’s tweet reflected an acknowledgement that his outburst did not help anyone, especially not his career. “Because he is in the limelight now, he needs more media attention to sell his new album. He even has a performance at the VMAs with Justin Bieber. He is using this old fight and using it to promote new projects,” stated Senior Dominique Logan.
His final tweet was a short one, “I’m sorry Taylor.” Ms. Swift has yet to release a statement but with the VMAs this year and Taylor being nominated and Kanye supposedly performing, let’s hope these two performers can play nice.
