The 2005- 2006 OHS girls’ basketball team has a new coach, new players, and challenging season ahead of them.

The preseason began on Nov. 16 when the varsity team had a scrimmage against Willow Canyon. No score was kept during the scrimmage. The first regular season game was on Nov. 28 at home against Desert Ridge when the Lady Eagles won by a score of 93-43.

Tryouts were held for all three levels beginning on Oct. 31. The coaches carefully looked at the players, and evaluated them in many aspects of basketball and off the court characteristics.

“We looked at academics, coachability, attitude, and the athleticism and ability of the girls,” said Justin McLain, varsity head coach.

The teams are now set with 12 players on varsity, 13 on JV, and 12 on the freshman team.

McLain, along with new varsity assistants Lenny Doerfler and Aaron Hubbard, has his varsity team practicing everyday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“ I expect them to come out and work hard, to forget about their outside issues and during practice just work hard on basketball,” McLain said.

The practices consist of offense, defense, and conditioning drills.

“We want to score 100 or more points in at least one of our games this year and be the best offensive team,” said Nicole Jacobs, varsity player.
