Students often don’t know much about teacher’s backgrounds, but when students enter new digital imaging teacher Chris Fahey’s classroom, they come face to face with a man who could have pronounced their parents, but chose instead to play music at the reception.

Fahey, a former Borromeo Seminary student, a part-time wedding disc jockey, a full-time father and the new digital imaging teacher, wears numerous hats throughout his day.

This busy mystery man is most likely seen after school running the computer lab attached to the library. He has a plethora of college degrees and a ton of engaging hobbies that make him hard to forget.

Fahey took the long road through higher education. He attended Borromeo Seminary for four years with the hopes of becoming a priest, but he realized his calling lies elsewhere– in the fields of education, psychology, sociology and communication.

Fahey studied all of these collectively at the University of Akron and Kent State, but it was his master’s in Instructional Technology that landed him here.

Fahey teaches two digital imaging classes, a website/ advanced website design class and a computer graphics /desktop publishing class. He has innovative plans for all of his classes.

The desktop publishing class is working with a new program called InDesign, and he plans to bring in photographers and cinematographers to talk in his digital imaging class.

Fahey also has experience with high school video news programs. At Barberton High School he ran live video announcements twice a day, every day. The possibility exists that his video talents may be utilized here in the future.

Fahey fills his time out of school as a cubmaster for his son’s boy scout troop. He enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and many water sports. Fahey also has experience with school newspapers, literary magazines and drama departments. As for his DJ job, Fahey claims it’s not much different than education.

“[DJing] is just like teaching a class; you are trying to entertain,” Fahey said.

Fahey is excited to be here and has enjoyed his first few weeks.

“The students are polite, respectful and interested in learning,” Fahey said.

He may be an unknown commodity now, but with his vast array of talents and skill he is sure to become a household name.
