A majority of students look at the FCAT as a waste of time, but according to teachers, school administrators, and the government, it is very helpful because it gives you a challenge before passing you on to the next grade level.
Mourning High's Reading coach, Ms. Sophia Landau agrees the FCAT is "not important by its name. It's important by its nature. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
But, she said, "Of course a reading comprehension test is important. The FCAT could be changed to a better test and could also be renamed. Obviously without it a student would not graduate ... Thats the law."
Students know they have to pass, but FCAT "is a pain in the butt," student Reyan Garcia said.
Aside from being afraid to take the FCAT or thinking its "a pain in the butt" there are some students that are ready to get it over with & continue on to the next grade. Like Kimberly Coleman who thinks
"The FCAT is a great way to test your intelligence and I can't wait to take it and show my mom how smart I really am."
Some things that students do to prepare for the FCAT:
1. Relax the day of the test
2. Go to sleep early to be well rested
3. Have a good breakfast before taking the test
4. Try to avoid distraction of other classmates
5. And be ready to work your hardest
It's very important to pass the FCAT because if you don't you can be in danger of failing your grade, you can be missing credits and you'll probably have you retake the class the next year.
