Friday May 3 the West High School Strangler as called by the police was captured at West. FBI agents were at the scene to make the arrest after the school hours had ended. Stopping this man helped to end the murders that had been terrorizing the neighborhood. By arresting this man, the FBI has helped to make West a safer place once again.
On Monday, May 23 the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI profiled the West High School Strangler who had recently been taking control of Waukesha West. He had murdered four victims not including the most recent murder found on that Monday. Before heading to the crime scene, the BAU determined the specific type of victim that the killer targeted. Brown, curly haired girls from ages 17 to 25 with lighter skin seemed to be his preferred type. He continued to go after a certain type of victim because he had a bad relationship with a girl who resembled all of his victims. The victims were substitutes for this one woman who had in the past offended or disrespected him in some way. By killing, he was taking revenge against this first offending female. Psychologists on the case determined that the first offending female had been the first girl the West High School Strangler had felt feelings for. He confronted her and she rejected him. This rejection sent him into a murderous rage. After establishing his motive, the BAU looked at the evidence. Photos of the evidence can be found along with photos of the crime scene within this article. The crime team then proceeded to go to the scene.
The first thing they did was walk the case out. The FBI determined that the killer stood by the door waiting for his victim. He lured the girls in by offering to give them a ride home or offering to walk with them. Once the girl had approached him, they started walking when he slowed down to get behind her. He then would strangle her using a piece of twine. After the murder, he would cut off her feet, taking them as trophies. Jewelry and her I.D. were taken as souvenirs. In this particular case, an earring was dropped as he ran off. He normally wouldn’t have left the body behind but it was deduced that he was in a hurry as more children came out of the school. He left, off guard, toward another potential victim as seen by security cameras. The body that was left showed stab wounds as he physically released his anger.
Before leaving the scene, the agents established a final criminal profile. Our killer was organized and with each kill he perfected himself. He needed a sense of close control, which is why he strangled his victims. One particular female offended him and therefore, he was taking out his anger, which was seen through the stabbing of the body, done after the murder. He would not stop until we stopped him, and this was the main goal behind our profiling.
The hard work of our investigation paid off in the end. The BAU canvassed the students for potential victims and watched them closely on the last Friday of school. By looked at body type, skin color, and hair color to decide who could be next, they came up with a list of potential targets. One girl who had met all the criteria stood out in particular as she had been staying after school to paint a mural in Mr. Kutcher’s room. They assigned an agent to her; one that would fit in with the rest of the school’s students so the killer wouldn’t feel threatened and stop attacking. Their agent went outside behind the school while the actual student brought the car from the parking lot to the back of the building where the other victim had been murdered. This had set a perfect trap for the West High School Strangler and another target was sitting waiting for a ride alone. The plan worked smoothly and successfully. The killer asked her if she needed a ride, she said yes, setting him up. When he slowed down to walk behind her, she pulled out her gun and stopped him in his tracks. Backup from the FBI surrounded him as they closed off all possibilities of escape. She removed the twine and knife from his person while others took him in to custody. At this moment, the FBI will not release the identify to the public until they are sure they caught the right man. Justice will be sought and found in a court of law after the FBI releases his identify. Without profiling the killer and assessing his victimology, this capture would not have been possible. The work conducted at the BAU and its members have once again proven themselves as the West High School Strangler takes an unexpected but welcomed retirement from Waukesha West.
