Saint John’s Catholic Prep will be hosting a 5K run and Fun Walk on November 18 to benefit the “Kevin’s Room” project.
The 5K Run and Fun Walk will take place on and around the school’s campus on Butterfly Lane. All are welcome to participate in the fun!
“You do not need to be a runner; walkers are welcomed!” said the Vikings for Hope moderator and runner Melissa Phillips.
“Kevin’s Room” is a project that the Saint John’s Catholic Prep Vikings For Hope group has taken up in honor of leukemia patient, Kevin Ballantine, a relative to multiple members of the Saint John’s community. One of Kevin’s dreams was to work on a project with the Habitat for Humanity group. Due to his physical condition he will not be able to participate in the charity. To make Kevin’s dream come true, Vikings for Hope has taken on the task and will be furnishing a child’s bedroom in his honor.
“I’d like to thank you all for taking on this project in my name…now I know that though I may not live much longer in this world, my legacy will continue to make the world a better place for years to come,” said Ballantine in an email to Vikings for Hope.
Mr. Oliver, President of St. John’s Catholic Prep, is encouraging everyone to come out and, “challenge [him]”. Accompanying Mr. Oliver will be several other faculty members promoting the cause.
Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. on the day of the race. Individual runners are asked to pay a $25 fee and families are asked to pay a flat rate of $50. All proceeds go towards the fundraising for the “Kevin’s Room” project. The race will begin promptly at 4 p.m. with refreshments and an awards ceremony to follow.
All are encouraged to come fight the battle against leukemia and help make the dreams of someone else come true. If running is not your forte, please come out and volunteer at the event. Any time you give will make a difference.
