After the “missed” playoff opportunity last year by the Phoenix Suns, they are back with vengeance. The Phoenix Suns were matched up against the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the 2010 NBA playoffs which started April 18. The Suns had an up and down series but won the overall series 4-2.
In the past 20 years, the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs have met 10 times in the post-season. For 3 consecutive seasons, the Spurs have beaten the Suns in the playoffs. The Suns and Spurs are the greatest rivalry in the desert. Phoenix was looking for redemption of their past and to beat the Spurs in the playoffs. May 3 was game one of the matchup and from game 1 all the way to game 4, the Suns came with anger in their eyes. The Suns swept the Spurs 4-0 for the first time in the matchup’s history.
Now the Suns have a different test to put their skills to. The Suns have made it to the western conference finals for the ninth time in franchise history. The 2010 western conference finals will be against the Los Angeles Lakers in the best of seven games. Graduating senior Chris Garry says, “The Lakers are going to sweep the Suns.” Fans remember the memorable history between these two teams. The tipoff of game one will be in L.A. at 6pm on Monday May 17.
This is one of the most anticipated series in the playoffs. Junior Jose Camerena says, “The Phoenix Suns will sweep the Los Angeles Lakers!” It is really impossible to say what is going to happen because with the history of these two teams, the unimaginable is possible. If the Suns play the same way, or even better, than the way they demolished the Spurs, they have a chance to move to the NBA finals and compete for their first franchise championship!
