Since my column was moved to an opinion page for this issue due to Jordan and Katie’s gender battle, I am now free to write about whatever I want. I am going to take full advantage and tackle many subjects in my column.
First, I am going to step into my entertainment page background and talk about a few movies. The best movie to come out over the past month was definitely Napoleon Dynamite.
This film did not really have a point to it at all, but it was absolutely hilarious. Despite its lack of plot and general stupidity, I still give it an “A.”
The new Brad Pitt film Troy was also released on DVD this month. This movie was quite good, but I believe that the story of Helen has been played out. It did tell the story in a somewhat new way, and Brad Pitt’s kill move was absolutely amazing. The only reason that I cannot give this movie a solid “A” is the over-exposure of Brad Pitt’s butt that it has. I am forced to give it an “A-.”
The last movie is Anchorman. The main reason is Will Ferrell. He is just awesome. This movie was also pretty pointless, but at least it had a plot. The coolest thing about the movie was when the entire news team breaks into song. That is just funny, no matter how serious the song is.
Well, now I guess I need to be done with talking about movies. I will move on to something that touches very close to home for me. PROCRASTINATION!
I do not like to admit it, but I am definitely a procrastinator. I try to focus on all of my homework and get it done right after it is assigned, instead of right before it is due.
No matter how hard I try to do this, I always find myself scrambling to get things right when they are due.
It is definitely not that I do not know that I need to do the work, or even that my classes are boring me. I just cannot stand to do homework. Every time I sit down to work on an assignment, I realize that playing video games or watching a movie would be a much better use of my time. At least it is kind of. I just really have a problem with homework.
Now that I have explained my reasons for procrastinating, I want to give you my reason for hating homework.
Here we go. The reason that is falsely fed to us our entire lives is that the purpose of school is to prepare children for the rest of their lives. The subject that is avoided is that there is no homework in the real world.
When we are in school, we are forced to sit and listen for a third of the day. The time that we do not spend at school or asleep is supposed to be spent on work that the teachers decided not to let us do in class.
This is “the man’s” way of putting us young people down. We are prevented from having any time to spend with our friends. If we decide that we want to spend some time with our friends, we are forced to do one of two things.
We can either give up sleep to be able to spend time with our friends, or we can sacrifice homework for our friends.
This is a major flaw in society. HOMEWORK is the reason for so many young people being angry.
I think it is also responsible for the increased percentage of high school dropouts and flunking high school students.
There you go, homework is bad and is a big problem. That is why I do not like to do it and always put it off.
Since I was moved to the opinion page I guess I cannot use my regular signoff, so I will switch it up a bit. That was your month, in my opinion.
