Happy Valentine’s Day to the women of HHS.

For those of you who have been disillusioned by Jordan Furrow’s column, perhaps I can comfort you.

Furrow claimed that relationships were only about sexual attraction and that they cost too much to be worth it.

Let me assure you, there are good and bad things about having a relationship on Valentine’s Day, but obviously Furrow does not understand the good things.

There must be something to gain from relationships or else high school students would not get involved in them.

Guys and girls, you know a girlfriend or boyfriend can give you a huge amount of self-confidence, a new group of friends and something to do every Saturday night.

It obviously goes beyond cooking and cleaning because most high school-aged girls do not do that anyway.

Occasionally, there are even couples that have mutual respect for each other.

However, girls, you do not need a boyfriend to have a great Valentine’s Day.

It is a perfect time to watch a chick flick with your single friends and swap candy hearts.

Since there are no classes due to late winter break, this year you do not have to witness the many HHS couples get all sappy on the 14th.

Furrow did make the point that relationships cost money.

So, if you are a single girl, relax! You do not have to worry about finding him the perfect gift that will tell him exactly what you want to say and carry the two of you to eternal bliss.

Since guys only buy girls presents because they like to hate themselves (that is Furrow again), girls, you might as well milk him for all he is worth.

Drop hints that you would like flowers and candy and jewelry and candy and dinner and concert tickets and some more candy.

If he wants to hate himself, that is his choice.

Couples will be stuck with the pressure that they have to make Valentine’s Day extra-special, since it only comes once a year and is the only holiday designed specifically for pairs.

Meanwhile, singles have no obligation. I am not saying dates on Valentine’s Day are always a bad thing. A guy asking a girl out on February 14th is totally sweet.

He might even have an advantage because the girl is particularly open for the possibility of romance, unless he is Jordan Furrow, whom no girl can respect him after that column.

Valentine’s Day is also a great time for couples to remember that they like each other. Guys, you can be all sentimental and you do not have to be embarrassed about it.

Want to know what really will show her you care? Suggest watching a crappy romance movie and pretend to enjoy it. My favorite is Ever After, but there are plenty of choices.

If you happen to have a particularly wonderful Valentine’s Day, please tell me.

I will even write about it in my next column, to give guys like Furrow a little more optimism about relationships.

I am keeping my ears open for the most romantic story.

However, do not be bummed if the wall is not covered in hearts with your name.

Have fun with the holiday anyway. Buy one of those Matchmaker sheets from Student Council.

It is always fun to find out that the guy that really annoys you is the one with whom you are truly most compatible.
