They are not widely known within the student body at Hastings High School, but they do plenty of things to help out. The HHS Booster Club has been helping the school by providing money for new equipment and numerous other things this year. The Booster Club donated $8,200 to help the wrestling team buy a new mat, the program Hudl for football coach Rick Ripperger and a new camera lens for the journalism department. They also helped provide the rest of the money needed for the new marquee sign outside. Activities Director Greg Holliday says that the Booster Club helps out a tremendous amount with athletic expenses. "Without the Booster Club we would not have 70% of the things we have today for athletics," Holliday said. Every year the Booster Club donates money to the Special Olympics. Booster Club president Jeff Andreasen says it's a chance for them to give back. "It's an organization that does a lot of neat things for a lot of neat people," Andreasen said. The Booster Club is funded by concession sales at all of the athletic events, T-shirt sales and donations by sponsors. The Booster Club is a community-supported organization. When groups or organizations need new equipment or money to help them buy something they approach the Booster Club with the idea. When the Booster Club meets at the last Monday of every month they then vote and decide whether or not to donate to that group or organization. "We usually never vote no on those sort of things," said Andreasen. The middle school has also formed a Booster Club to get parents active and involved earlier.
