Dance and Cheer Tryouts

Dance tryouts consist of vigorous hard work. Students must show up on time, which is very important, although the location is hard to find at first, with your hair tied up, completely out of your face, this includes bangs. Good athletic shoes are needed, pirouettes are very difficult without jazz shoes, and comfy clothes, no pants that drag on the floor. The first thing participants do is stretch for about a half an hour. Then practice all across the floors things such as leaps, turns, and jazz walks. Spotting is a very important and needed skill. If the student is having trouble it is important to ask for help, keeping smiles and good attitude is also very important, and of course practicing when gettting home. After across the floors we learned a dance to the song Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N’ Roses. During the dance it is important to smile and make the moves dramatic.

Similarly to Dance Tryouts, Cheer tryouts also consist of vigorous hard work. The first day students learn a dance and run up a hill 3 times. It is crucial to keep arms sharp, they can’t be sloppy or it'll be immediately corrected. The second day a cheer is learned and as well as conditioning. The third day students learn jumps, along with even more conditioning. The following day a review and interviews are given. For the interview make sure you act like yourself, don’t pretend to be something you’re not to get on the team. On the last and most important day participants actually tryout by doing the dance, cheer, and jumps. Even if you mess up its important to keep smiling and make it look like your mess up was part of the routine.

For both the tryouts it’s so important to have a good attitude. Always keep a smile on your face and do your best.
