This Saturday, November 12th various
citizens of Slidell participated in an overall community effort to clean the
city. Slidell Beautification is an annual all-day project and the purpose is to
spruce up the town. Different organizations met at the gazebo in Heritage
Park, received their assignments, and went straight to making the city sparkle.
The Northshore High School Interact Club and Robotics Club were there cleaning
up gardens in Olde Town. Betty Rose of the Magnolia Forest Garden Club was
helping the Interact Club plant flowers by the “Welcome to Olde Town Sign.” She
commented about her favorite part of annual project saying, “Teaching the kids
how to plant has to be one of my favorite parts of this day.” Michael Nguyen, a
senior at Northshore took to gardening very quickly. He said, “I’ve never
planted before, but it’s really not that bad. I like it.” The club planted
flowers, fertilized the soil, and spread mulch throughout the mini gardens.
Participants worked from nine in the morning until twelve and afterwards met up
at Heritage Park for free t-shirts and food. The city-wide clean-up not only
promotes planting flowers and picking up trash, but also tries to bring
awareness about a greener outlook for the city. After all, if citizens must
invest their time in order to see the benefits of a brighter and greener
future. Rose stated, “Today gives pride
in the citizens of the city to it clean. With the volunteers, it makes
everything possible because to the city can afford to do this clean-up.” Helping
hands soon turn into green thumbs, and those become the tools to help clean our
city.
