Poster for Tron: Legacy -
Tron: Legacy was released on December 17, 2010 and has brought in nearly $137 million dollars since its release. Tron: Legacy is a sequel to Tron, which was released in July of 1982.
The storyline of Tron: Legacy follows Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the son of legendary video-game designer, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). When Sam is a child, his father disappears, and Sam grows up unsure if his father is still alive. Years later, Alan, Kevin’s old business partner, receives a page from his partner’s abandoned arcade. Sam goes back there and discovers a hidden basement filled with computer hardware. On accident, Sam ends up in “The Grid”, the virtual world his father discovered. Inside the world, Sam finds not only his father’s prison for the past 20 years, but the once perfect world has now fallen apart. His father had planned to use his knowledge from “The Grid” to help improve the uman world; however, the plan fell apart when Kevin’s virtual counterpart, Clu, took complete control over “The Grid”. After learning this, Sam and his father have a limited time to escape from “The Grid” and Clu.
Students at Northshore gave the movie very mixed reviews; some students fell in love, while others thought the movie fell short in storyline and imagination. Student remarks ranged from, “It was so cool,” to “It had no plot.” Although the movie was visually stunning with graphics that set high standards for any future Disney film, the movie’s plot could have been improved with less side story and more focus on interesting aspects: the famous Tron cycles, discs, and suits. Despite its plot problems, I give this movie 3 out of 5 paws for incredible visuals.
